Collective Impact

Impactful Philanthropy, Engaged Action

With support from our donors, we fund and drive public health research and practice, implement programs, and support evidence required for healthy public policy. This has an immediate and measurable health impact in communities across BC.

Our Strategic Direction

Our impact flows from meeting the following key strategic directions:

  1. Raise the profile of public health, emphasize the role we play, and enhance the value we bring to the system.
  2. Refine, strengthen, and mobilize our programs in partnership with the BCCDC, the broader public health sector, and community.
  3. Enhance organizational sustainability.

Acknowledging Our Donors

Every one of our donors is a public health champion, with each gift helping to improve the health and safety of all British Columbians.

Wastewater Surveillance

When COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, the Foundation sprang into action investing donor funds into wastewater testing that would accelerate the response to the pandemic. This gave public health leaders invaluable data to help them make decisions about how to better protect the public from the spread of the virus.

When reports came out of the Netherlands that the SARS-CoV-2 virus was found in wastewater five days before the first clinical case of COVID-19 in that area was detected, Dr Natalie Prystajecky, program head for the Environmental Microbiology program at the BC Centre for Disease Control Public Health Laboratory knew immediately that wastewater testing could play a game-changing role in the pandemic.

Preventing Childhood Asthma

Asthma is the number one chronic disease of childhood, and the third most common chronic disease in Canada. With almost 300 Canadians diagnosed with asthma every day, each year about four families lose a loved one to a fatal asthma attack.

Imagine if we could proactively avoid asthma. That’s precisely why we decided to back a crucial applied public health initiative aimed at investigating whether there are actionable measures to alter these statistics and ultimately preserve lives.
